Not only was the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum pleased to be a part of Ardent Studios' 40th anniversary celebration in 2006 (which landed us the generous loan of one of the orginal sound boards from early Ardent studios, now occupying the museum's "Beat Goes On" gallery), the museum is also pleased that Ardent's 40th anniversary "house cleaning" unearthed the new materials that lead to a new Big Star box set. "Keep An Eye On the Sky" is a 4-disc, 98-song retrospective from the 70s Memphis band that had a huge influence on the 80s and 90s alternative rock movement. Rhino Records releases the box set this Tuesday, September 15, packed with rare tracks, band demos, live performance recordings from a 1973 Memphis concert, and a 100-page booklet with many previously unpublished photos of band members Alex Chilton, Jody Stephens, Chris Bell and Andy Hummel. The box set can also be purchased from
rhinorecords.com. Later this month, Rhino also releases a two-disc set featuring recordings and demos from Chris Bell's posthumous 1992 recording "I Am the Cosmos."
